Quick answer
A private Oxford day tour from London with Chauffeurz costs from £575 per vehicle (around US$730) for a full 8-hour day in a Budget Saloon up to 3 passengers. Executive MPV for up to 6 passengers is £850 (~US$1,078) — roughly US$180 each in a group of 6. All prices are per vehicle, not per person. Oxford is approximately 60 miles from Central London — 90 minutes each way via the M40 — leaving 4 to 4.5 hours in the city. Your chauffeur collects you after breakfast at 10:00, drives you to Oxford, waits throughout your visit, and brings you home on clear roads by early evening. No group, no guide, no fixed route — the dreaming spires at your own pace.
The world’s oldest English-speaking university — ninety minutes from your hotel door
Your own car and chauffeur for the day, from your London hotel to Oxford and back. Walk through the Bodleian Library quadrangle. Stand beneath the Radcliffe Camera. Look through the gates of Christ Church — where 13 British Prime Ministers studied and where Harry Potter was filmed. Have lunch in a 400-year-old pub. Go punting on the Cherwell if the weather suits you. No group, no commentary, no fixed schedule — Oxford at your own pace.
Why 8 hours and not 6
Oxford is 60 miles from Central London — about 90 minutes each way. A 6-hour tour gives you only 3 hours in the city. That is enough to walk past the main buildings and take photographs, but not enough to actually experience Oxford. You need time to walk into a quadrangle and sit for a moment, to find the pub that has been there since the 1400s, to stand on Magdalen Bridge and watch the punts go by.
Eight hours gives you 4 to 4.5 hours in the city — the right amount of time to see the principal landmarks properly, have lunch, and still feel like you spent real time there. We book the tour as 8 hours for this reason. If you want a 6-hour option, we can arrange it — but most visitors who have done both say the extra two hours are the difference between seeing Oxford and understanding it.

The day, hour by hour
The 10:00 departure avoids London rush hour and puts you in Oxford before the main coach tour wave arrives at midday.
10:00
Collection from your hotel
Breakfast done, no alarm at 06:00. Rush hour has cleared. Your chauffeur arrives and you leave comfortably.
10:00 to 11:30
Drive to Oxford via the M40
90 minutes through West London and into the Chiltern Hills and Oxfordshire. Clear roads at this hour. Your chauffeur drops you in the city centre and parks nearby.
11:30 to 14:00
Oxford — morning circuit
The Bodleian Library quadrangle and Divinity School, Radcliffe Camera, the Bridge of Sighs on New College Lane, Christ Church College, Merton College. Most of this is free — you walk between them in under 20 minutes. Your chauffeur is reachable by phone throughout and can bring the car to you at any point.
14:00 to 15:00
Lunch
The covered market off the High Street is the local favourite — independent cafes and food stalls in a Victorian market building. The Eagle and Child pub on St Giles’ Street is where C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien met weekly to read each other their work. The Turf Tavern, tucked down a medieval alley, has been a pub since the 13th century. Your chauffeur can suggest or book a table.
15:00 to 17:00
Oxford — afternoon
Punting on the Cherwell if the weather suits — hire a punt at Magdalen Bridge Boathouse and spend an hour on the river. Or the Ashmolean Museum (free, one of the oldest public museums in the world). Or simply walk down the High Street and into the colleges that are open in the afternoon. Oxford rewards slow walking.
17:00 to 18:30
Return to London
90 minutes back via the M40. Traffic on this route at 17:00 is manageable — the inbound M40 into London is busy but the Oxford-to-London direction flows. Back at your hotel by 18:30, evening ahead of you.
What to see in Oxford
Oxford for Harry Potter fans
Several Oxford locations were used as filming locations for the Harry Potter series. If this matters to your group, tell your chauffeur when you book and he will plan the day to hit each one in the most efficient order.
Combine Oxford with Blenheim Palace
Blenheim Palace — the birthplace of Winston Churchill and one of England’s finest baroque houses — is just 8 miles from Oxford. We offer a combined Blenheim Palace and Oxford tour as a separate booking. Adding Blenheim to your Oxford day means 2 fewer hours in the city — both sites deserve proper time. If both matter to you, the combined tour is the right choice.

Questions
How much does a private Oxford day tour from London cost?+
Private Oxford day tours start from £575 (around US$730) for a Budget Saloon up to 3 passengers for 8 hours. Executive MPV for up to 6 passengers is £850 (~US$1,078) — roughly US$180 each in a group of 6. First Class Saloon is £1,035, Luxury SUV is £1,595. All prices are per vehicle, not per person, VAT included.
Why 8 hours and not 6?+
Oxford is 60 miles from London — 90 minutes each way. A 6-hour tour leaves only 3 hours in the city, which is not enough to experience Oxford properly. Eight hours gives you 4 to 4.5 hours in the city — enough for the main colleges and landmarks, lunch, and time to actually sit down and enjoy it rather than rushing between photographs.
Is a guide included?+
No. Your chauffeur drives, waits, and knows Oxford well — he can suggest the best walking route, where to have lunch, and which colleges are open — but does not provide formal academic commentary. Oxford is very walkable and the colleges are well signed. If you want expert historical and academic commentary, we can arrange a qualified Blue Badge Guide from £250.
Do we need to book any tickets in advance?+
Most of Oxford is free to walk around. The Bodleian Divinity School requires a ticket (~£3 per person, book at bodleian.ox.ac.uk). Christ Church College charges entry (~£18 adult, available on the day or online). The Ashmolean Museum is free. Punting can be arranged on the day at Magdalen Bridge Boathouse — no advance booking needed outside peak summer weekends.
Is Oxford good for Harry Potter fans?+
Yes. The Bodleian Divinity School was used as the Hogwarts hospital wing, Duke Humfrey’s Library as the Hogwarts library, Christ Church staircase as the Hogwarts entrance, and New College cloisters for the Herbology scenes. Tell your chauffeur and he will plan the day around the filming locations in the most efficient order. Note that the Warner Bros Studio Tour near London is where the actual Hogwarts sets are — Oxford has the real locations, the studio has the sets.
Can we combine Oxford with Blenheim Palace?+
Yes — Blenheim is 8 miles from Oxford. We offer a combined Blenheim and Oxford tour as a separate booking. Combining both in one day means less time at each site — Blenheim alone takes 2 to 3 hours to see properly. If both matter to you, the dedicated combined tour is the better choice rather than rushing both.
Is there a minimum number of passengers?+
No. The price is per vehicle, not per person. An Executive MPV at £850 for 6 passengers works out at roughly US$180 each for a full 8-hour private day — competitive with individual guided tour packages.
What is the cancellation policy?+
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before your collection time. Inside 24 hours, charges apply as set out in our Terms and Conditions.
