One-Way vs Alternatives

Why Not Uber, Bolt, or Black Cab?

On a short cross-London hop at 11am on a Tuesday, Uber X undercuts everyone. Nobody disputes that. Where fixed-fare private hire wins is the moments Uber punishes hardest: booked in advance, guaranteed arrival, no surge on a rainy Friday, no cancellation ten seconds before pickup, no meter ticking through congestion, no wondering if the car will actually arrive at Heathrow arrivals or divert to another job. A Sunday evening business return to Mayfair when Uber Comfort surges to £68 is the moment one-way private hire quietly wins the argument.

Cross-London: Mayfair → Canary Wharf (Friday 6pm)
OptionOff-PeakPeak/Surge
Uber X / Bolt Standard£22-28£45-70 surge
Uber Comfort / Bolt Premium£35-45£60-85 surge
Black cab (metered)£40-55£55-75 (traffic)
Chauffeurz Executive one-way (fixed)£65£65 (no surge)

Off-peak, Uber wins on price. Peak, surge, rain, Friday 6pm, or any airport arrival with a suitcase — fixed-fare private hire wins on price and certainty. Advance booking is the whole game.

Common Questions

One Way Chauffeur FAQ

How is the one-way fare calculated?+

Cross-London fares are zone-based — Zone 1 to Zone 1-2 starts at £45 Budget, up to any London postcode from £75 Budget. Airport, cruise port, and out-of-London routes are fixed per destination and vehicle tier (see the popular routes section for exact quotes to Heathrow, Gatwick, Windsor, Cambridge, and beyond). Every fare includes London Congestion Charge, ULEZ, meet-and-greet, waiting time, and luggage handling — the price you see at booking is the price you pay, regardless of traffic, time of day, or day of week.

How much waiting time is included?+

Standard one-way pickups include 15 minutes free waiting from the booked collection time — more than enough for coming down from a hotel room or finishing a meeting. Airport arrivals include 60 minutes free waiting from actual flight landing time (tracked automatically by our dispatch system), which covers passport control, baggage collection, and customs even on busy days. Cruise port drops include 15 minutes at the terminal. Beyond the free allowance, waiting time is charged at £15/hour Budget through £40/hour Luxury, in 15-minute increments — but for most pickups the free window is comfortably enough.

Can I add a stop on the way?+

One or two brief stops (under 10 minutes each, on-route) are typically absorbed into the fare at no extra charge — picking up a colleague, collecting a document, brief courier drop. For substantial detours, multiple longer stops, or wait-and-return patterns, our hourly chauffeur service often prices better. Dispatch will suggest the cheaper format when quoting — a booking with three planned stops and 45 minutes of waiting is almost always better as hourly hire than one-way plus extras.

How far in advance should I book a one-way transfer?+

Two hours minimum for standard bookings. Same-day and short-notice bookings are accepted subject to fleet availability at the same fixed rate — we do not apply short-notice surcharges. For guaranteed vehicle tier and driver preference, book 24-48 hours ahead. For airport arrivals we recommend booking as soon as flight details are confirmed, which lets our system track landing time and adjust automatically for delays without you needing to notify us. Luxury tier (Bentley, Rolls-Royce) benefits from 3-5 days advance notice, particularly during Wimbledon fortnight, Royal Ascot week, and the wedding season.

What is the cancellation policy?+

Free cancellation up to 12 hours before the scheduled pickup time. Cancellations within 12 hours are charged at 50% of the fare; within 2 hours or no-show at 100%. Flight-tracked airport arrivals are the exception — if your flight is cancelled by the airline before it departs, we cancel the pickup at no charge regardless of notice period. Cancellation is instant via booking confirmation link, WhatsApp dispatch, or email. Rebookings within the same 24-hour period are free of charge if fleet allows.

What if my flight is delayed by hours?+

Airport pickups are tied to actual flight arrival time, not scheduled arrival time. Our dispatch tracks your flight automatically from wheels-up at the origin airport. If your flight is delayed by two hours, four hours, or overnight, your driver is repositioned to match the new landing time at no additional cost. Cancellation by the airline — strike, weather, mechanical — cancels the booking free of charge regardless of notice period. This is why we recommend giving flight number rather than scheduled time at booking; the system does the rest.

Do you invoice corporate clients in bulk?+

Yes. Corporate accounts consolidate all one-way, hourly, and long-distance bookings into a monthly VAT invoice with 30-day payment terms. Cost centre allocation on every booking, expense-report-ready receipts (PDF), GDPR-compliant traveller data handling, and preferred fleet tier assignment are standard. Accounts are set up in under 48 hours — email contact@chauffeurz.london or WhatsApp dispatch on +44 7466 712821 to begin.
